“For my friends who run long distances, these tiny fragments of levitation add up to something considerable; by their own power they hover above the Earth for many minutes, perhaps some significant portion of an hour or perhaps far more for the hundred-mile races. We fly; we dream in darkness; we devour heaven in bites too small to be measured.”

Read about Baiba’s experience HERE.

Run to Plant Trees is a cause and a call for climate action created in 2019 by Baiba Šustere, meditation and forest therapy facilitator, environmental activist, and an avid runner and nature lover, who is based in Galway, Ireland.

What are we doing?
On Thursday, November 11, 2021, Baiba will be running 12 h straight on a track in 400 m loops to challenge and test her mind and body, and to raise funds for Hometree based in co. Clare. Hometree is an Irish charity looking to establish and conserve permanent native woodlands in Ireland, encouraging land regeneration and biodiversity through afforestation, restoration and education.

Why is it important to plant native trees and preserve native woodlands?
Ireland was once a land of forests. At one time, up to 80% of the country was covered in native woodlands. Yet today, Ireland is the most deforested country in Europe. Just over 1% of that original forest cover remains. Hometree's vision is the restoration of Ireland’s ancient woodlands through conservation, afforestation and education; Hometree are creating a landscape in which people and forests flourish together.

What will this money be used for?
The money raised through this project will be used to continue establish Hometree base and education center in Ennistimon, co. Clare, and to develop a tree nursery for native Irish trees, as well as to plant native Irish trees on Hometree's owned sites.

Thank you for your support in addressing both Ireland’s declining biodiversity crisis and the unfolding climate challenge across the globe that we are all faced with. It is time create hope, and act inspired by this hope.

You are a part of nature. Stay kind, run and rewild our home.
