ABOUT BAIBA
MOVEMENT - MINDFULNESS - NATURE
Baiba Šustere is a movement, breath and meditation facilitator, a plant based runner, writer, environmental activist and a certified forest therapy guide. She is passionate and curious about human mind and body.
As a facilitator Baiba’s focus is on merging breathwork and meditation with asana to create a relaxing and enjoyable environment on and off the mat. Baiba works with private clients as well as corporate clients, she teaches individual and group in person and online sessions. As a forest therapy guide Baiba hopes to create a bit more curiosity, passion and intimacy towards nature, life, mind and body; to enjoy the interconnectedness of all.
In June, 2017, Baiba founded Yoga-B, which has given her an opportunity to teach numerous yoga, breathwork and meditation sessions, host workshops and retreats in Galway, Dublin, and Inishbofin, Ireland, as well as host workshops in Riga and Liepaja, Latvia. Early in 2017, Baiba and Mara, the owner of The Secret Garden, Galway, created Inner Space ceremonies that incorporated breathwork, meditation and Cha Dao tea ceremony, and over the years these ceremonies have become an essential part of Sunday mornings for many.
Baiba is also a part time freelance writer and translator. Her articles range from running, health, and wellness to environmental and sustainability essays to mindfulness which have appeared on several online platforms and in print.
Baiba holds a BSc degree in Optometry, and during her studies she devoured subjects like Human Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Elements of Psychoanalytical Theory and Therapy, and Microbiology. Afterwards she continued her studies and dived deep into linguistics and English literature while writing her MA thesis on Madness and Art in Timothy Findley’s Novels Pilgrim and Headhunter. A background and experience in physics, anatomy, linguistics, literature and wellness has given Baiba a unique skill-set and ability to work in various environments, and the drive to continually learn and develop new skills while staying passionate and compassionate about everything she does.
Run to Plant Trees Project 1.0 | 2.0 | Running Journal
In April, 2019, Baiba created Run to Plant Trees initiative as a response to the current climate crisis. During the first edition of Run to Plant Trees, Baiba set herself a challenge to run three marathons, two half marathons and one ultra marathon within a year along the West Coast of Ireland to raise funds to plant native and indigenous Irish trees with the help of Hometree Charity. This initial part of the Run to Plant Trees project gave Baiba a platform to talk about current climate challenges, the importance of individual and systematic changes that need to take place, about the beauty of nature, and how important it is to respect and preserve it, as well as, it allowed her to continue to cultivate her passion for running and exploring. During this time Baiba gave talks, wrote articles and organised informational nights on climate, running and how an individual can make a difference, and invited others to participate in the discussion.
In November, 2021, Baiba launched the second edition of the Run to Plant Trees initiative, once again bringing awareness of rewilding, biodiversity and ways to be a more conscious runner. This time Baiba set herself a challenge to run for 12 h around a track loop. She did it! On Thursday, November 11, 2021, three years after running her first marathon in Athens, Baiba ran 12 h around a single track loop which amounted to 90 km. It was one of the most enjoyable runs that she has done.
When Baiba is not on the mat or the cushion, or out running, she can be found immersed in the ocean be it winter or summer or writing perched on a rock.
